Gamble Your Money, Not Your Identity: Safety Tips to Protect Your Cash and Yourself Inside a Vegas Casino

Las Vegas is a fun loving town full of fun loving people who are determined to show you a good time. But, there are always those in every destination that wish to take advantage, prey upon or simply steal that which is yours. From your wallet to your identity, anything not protected could be at risk to be stolen. Below are tips on how to keep yourself safe in a Las Vegas Casino.

Preventative Medicine

There are things you can do before any thing happens to prevent bad things from happening. Frank Scoblete is a gambling pro and knows the ins and outs of Las Vegas casino safety. One of the first things he warns travelers of is the casino bathrooms. Lavatories rarely have security guards, Scoblete claims, and in many cases, this is where the crooked hang out to do their dirty work.

Then there are those fellow players that may try to scarf up your spoils. For example, Scoblete points out the spill and grab trick. When some one spills a drink on the table, watch your chips and watch them well, or they could be gone with the napkins used to wipe up the mess. Also, Scoblete urges gamblers to take care of their coin buckets when playing slot machines. Often, pairs of thieves will try to steal coins. One distracts while the other walks away with your cash!

The Cash and the Cards

Two things to avoid dragging around a Las Vegas casino are purses and wallets. Travelers may want to invest in a money pouch. (Not a fanny pack. Those are a different beast!). Many money pouches are thin and discrete. They can be worn under shirts or even tucked into pants. Keep any ATM cards, credit cards, or cash in your pouch to keep it out of plain sight. Shoes are sometimes good for this too, if the wad of money in your shoe doesn’t bother you and you don’t mind stinky money!

If You Feel Threatened

If you feel threatened, or even worse, if someone has stolen from you, the last thing Scoblete says you should do is try to yell help. He says that it simply doesn’t work. People are absorbed in the games and the fun that they are having. The best thing to yell if you feel the need to is “FIRE!” If, for example, someone is tailing you in your hotel hallway, there are also things that you can do to get people’s attention. Utter to yourself “Man, I forgot which room I was in,” and knock on doors until someone answers.
